Kathryn Bolinger (b. 2000) is a passionate musician and composer. Whether she is performing as a flautist and singer or sharing her creations through composition, Kathryn’s passion for expression and creativity leads her in all endeavors. She is committed to sharing music with communities and inspiring others through her creations.

She received a B.M. in Music Performance (Flute), a B.A. in Mathematics, and a Minor in Leadership Studies from Washburn University. Kathryn is currently building her media presence and sharing your voice with the world, and she intends to continue eventually continue her education further by seeking a D.M.A. in Composition.

Kathryn particularly enjoys playing in chamber groups like woodwind quintets, flute choirs, and groups with non-traditional instrumentation. Her compositions reflect this through pieces like Fly with Me, a quintet for flute, oboe, two clarinets, and double bass. She has played in several large ensembles, and one of her favorite experiences was when she was selected as principal flute for the Kansas Intercollegiate Orchestra in 2020. They performed The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky under the direction of Dr. Cornelia Laemmli Orth.

As a soprano, Kathryn enjoys a wide variety of genres, including (but not limited to) pop, folk, and opera. She has performed with both Washburn University’s and the University of Wyoming’s Opera Studios as well as a number of choirs both in academics and communities. Kathryn particularly enjoyed performing Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Wyoming’s Cheyenne Symphony in 2025.

She truly has a passion for the stories that music can tell, with and without words. Kathryn always performs and writes with an image in her mind, and she conveys it to her audience through sound. She even writes some of the stories in prose to be read alongside her compositions or used as program note material in performances.

Kathryn has performed in a handful of masterclasses with notable flautists. She played for Dr. Thomas Robertello, a world-renowned flautist and professor; Dr. Michael Gordon, principal of the Kansas City Symphony; and Dr. Cobus du Toit, a world travelling soloist and Haynes representative.

She has had the privilege to study under and work with many great musicians. In her flute studies, Kathryn has studied with Dr. Nicole Riner and Dr. Rebecca Meador. Compositionally, she has studied under Dr. Alex Annon and Dr. Von Hansen. Vocally, she has worked with Dr. Magdalena Wor, Dr. Crystal Buck, Dr. Joseph DeSoto, Dr. Stacey Uthe, and Dr. Lara Brooks. She has played under many fantastic conductors, including Dr. Matthew Schlomer, Dr. Raffaele Cipriano, Dr. Anya Pogorelova, Dr. Silas Huff, Dr. Tom Seddon, and Dr. Martha Placeres.
